Black-necked Stilt Courtship at the Gilbert Riparian Watershed in the U.S. state of Arizona.
They have the second-longest legs in proportion to their bodies of any bird, exceeded only by flamingos. The Hawaiian subspecies of Black-necked Stilt (knudseni) has the black of its neck reaching much farther forward than the mainland forms. Its name in the Hawaiian language is Aeo, which means "one standing tall.”

Framed photographs of my six siblings and I adorned in 60s style outfits, hairdos and pointedly colorful eye glasses were prominently displayed in the home I grew up in. The happy memories of these photos, coupled with my newfound love of grandchildren and passion for nature drove me to purchase a digital camera. Little did I know just how much that camera would change my life! One photo after another, click after click; college classes, seminars, and months of photographing, downloading and posting prompted me to retire and see the world through a Nikon lens or two or three... What I have and continue to see and experience through a lens, or two or three is captured and shared in the photos posted by LM Manifold Photography on Facebook,...
