Onaqui Mustangs ~ How do YOU pronounce Onaqui?
An excerb from Robert Hammer's book the Salt Desert Mustangs suggest the following:
"The name derives from the Goshute (Shoshone) language and may mean "salt mountain" or "salty place." The most common pronunciation sounds like "On a key," with emphasis on the 1st syllable, as if correcting someone who has asked, "Off a Key?" No, on a key. Owners of a bison ranch including this word in its name suggest something closer to OH-nuh-kwee. My own interpretation, emphasizes the 2nd syllable: oh-NAH-ke. I strongly suspect the 1st is technically correct, but continue to prefer the third because I like the sound of it."

Framed photographs of my six siblings and I adorned in 60s style outfits, hairdos and pointedly colorful eye glasses were prominently displayed in the home I grew up in. The happy memories of these photos, coupled with my newfound love of grandchildren and passion for nature drove me to purchase a digital camera. Little did I know just how much that camera would change my life! One photo after another, click after click; college classes, seminars, and months of photographing, downloading and posting prompted me to retire and see the world through a Nikon lens or two or three... What I have and continue to see and experience through a lens, or two or three is captured and shared in the photos posted by LM Manifold Photography on Facebook,...
